TERMINAL
The PIT terminal buildings feature high speed, automated
walkways, escalators and people movers with the airplanes at
one end and the parking lot at the other. The landside and
airside terminals are linked by two parallel tunnels carrying
two-car people movers with a capacity for 80 passengers in
each car. The trip between the landside and airside terminals
takes just 70 seconds, including boarding time.
The airside building consists of a large atrium with four
concourse arms, usually described as a giant X. Two arms,
with a total of 50 gates, are used by US Airways. The third
and fourth arms are used for other domestic airlines and
international airlines. Moving sidewalks move a deplaning
passenger from plane to parking in 11 minutes.
From here, you can go anywhere. Fast.
Landside Building
An enclosed, climate-controlled moving walkway transports travelers
from the parking area to the Landside Terminal.
Ticketing level where tickets are bought, bags are checked and
seats assigned.
Transit level in the Landside Terminal. The baggage claim area is
on the floor below for arriving passengers.
The Commuter Terminal where commuter passengers arrive and
depart.
The Landside Building is for ticketing, baggage checking and
security check-point. It is linked to the parking area with a
moving walkway, by escalators to the Commuter Terminal, and
by people movers to the Airside Building.
Airside Building
The people mover arrives at the Airside Terminal on the lower level.
An escalator leads up two flights to the Airside Core. The retail mall,
featuring shops and restaurants is located on this level.
All gates are located on four concourse arms that extend from the
Airside Core. Moving sidewalks along the concourse arms
effortlessly move passengers to arrival and departure gates.
The Airside Building has an impressive three-story atrium for
shopping and services, and four concourses with 75 gates.
Three concourses are devoted to domestic airline travelers.
The fourth concourse contains, along with customs and
immigration, gates for international travelers.
